Play Baccarat Online

When it comes to casino games that are easy to play, the list will definitely include the game of Baccarat. Different casino gaming websites discuss the history of this card game, with different time lines proposed to explain its start and popularity. Although there were conflicting explanations on when it was first played, there’s no denying its French roots. Starting in the 1800s, this classic card game was played in different parts of France, and has assumed a high-class reputation as a game played by high society people.

Today, this classic card game has retained its high class and old world charm and is a favourite card game in many brick and mortar casinos and online gaming websites. There are three popular variants of this classic casino game:

  •   Deux tableaux
  •   Punto banco
  •   ‘Chemmy’

In many casinos in Europe and the United States, the variant used is punto banco, where the players’ cards and wins are at the hands of the dealer, with no strategy to speak of. In the game of Baccarat, cards with values 2 to 9 are given their face values, and Ks, Js, Qs and 10s assigned no values and Aces with one point. The objective in the game of Baccarat is to get the highest point from the cards, a 9.

Bets available in Baccarat

In this classic game, players and casino enthusiasts are given three options when betting.

  •   Banker- Among many casino enthusiasts and players, this Baccarat bet is considered the most popular. It offers the lowest advantage for the house but will often come with a banker commission, usually 5 per cent in case the player wins. If this is your approach in playing this card game, it’s recommended that you have an extra cash to cover the potential commissions at the end of the game.
  •   Player- This pays 1 to 1, and is considered the opposite of a banker bet. Under this arrangement, the player hand will have slightly less favourable rules in getting a third card and also picks first. This means that this bet offers a better advantage to the player compared to the banker bet.
  •   Tie- This bet usually pays 8 to 1, and usually doesn’t pay off. The idea here is to predict that both hands will generate the same value.

Rules in drawing of the cards

There are drawing rules in Baccarat, punto banco included, and these are often fixed (tableau).

If both the bank and the player do not get the 8 or 9 in their initial cards or natural cards, then the tableau gets into the action, using the rule for players first.

  •   Player’s rule- If the natural cards for the player amounts to 5 points or below, then he picks his third card. But if the initial cards are in the 6 to 7 range, then the point stands.
  •   Banker’s rule- If the player’s card value is 6 or 7 and stands, then the same ruling will apply to the banker. This means that he must stand for values 6 and 7, and draws another for values less than 5.

A different set of complex rules shall be followed in case the player picks another card from deck.

  •   If on the third the player got 2 or 3, the banker will then draw if the values 0 to 4 are picked, but will not move for values 5, 6 and 7.
  •   If on the third the player got 4 or 5, the banker will then draw if the values 0 to 5 are picked, but will not move for a value of 6 to 7.
  •   If on the third the player got 6,7, the banker will then draw if the values 0 to 6 are picked, but will not move on a value of 7.
  •   If on the third the player gets an 8, the banker will then draw for values 0 to 2 picked, but will not move on values from 4 to 7.

Improved casino rules when playing Baccarat

To ensure simplicity of rules in playing the game, many casinos have simplified the rules. Here are some of the basic rules that have been adopted by many leading casinos both online and offline.

  •   If the natural card value of the banker is less than 2, the banker is given the chance to pick a third.
  •   For a natural value of 3, the banker picks a third except when the player’s third amounts to 8.
  •   For a natural value of 4, the banker picks a third when the value of the player’s third range from 2 to 7.
  •   For a natural value of 5, the banker picks a third when the value of the player’s third card range from 4 to 7.
  •   For a natural of 6, the banker picks a third when the value of the player’s third card range from 6 to 7.
  •   For a natural of 7, the banker will not make a move.

Playing odds in Baccarat

Baccarat is easy to play online, has that old world charm and offers a respectable house edge. When it comes to the odds and house edge, there have been a number of calculations conducted to guide players and casinos alike. According to one recent calculation, the banker is expected to win 50.68 per cent of all non-tie hands, and the player has a 49.32 per cent chance. If using a 100-credit as the basis, a player can expect to lose 50.68, and win the rest thus resulting to a house edge of 1.36 against the bet of the player.
